Remote phone control software is FREE! SingleWire RemotePhoneControl

Posted: 2015-03-25 in Cisco, UCM

I have just discovered that SingleWire made its popular RemotePhoneControl software free.
https://www.singlewire.com/free-xml-apps.html

I have tested it only with 9971 & 7965 Cisco phones and it works perfectly with a minimum delay of 3 seconds. CUCM v9.1.1

Just download zip archive with
– license
– executable install file
– good documentation on how to configure this software

Installation for windows is straightforward. Maybe you need to play with your environmental variables for Java, but I didn’t have any issues.
Few words regarding configuration of RPC and CUCM may be found under cut.

Please, use guide “RPC for Windows Install and User Guide”.

Configure CUCM SNMP

No troubles. Used community string name “RemotePhoneControl”.

Create a CUCM Application User

I added roles below, but after configuration was completed RPC changed the roles to appropriate ones.

Standard CTI Enable
Standard CCM Super Users

Also you need to enable Web Access (Device -> Phone) for all of the phones that you want to control.
To verify phone web page enter its ip address in a browser – device information page should be displayed.

Install Your License Key

Had some troubles with a license file, but I it was applied on 2nd attempt.

Edit RemotePhoneControl’s Preferences

Used default Application user created at the time of installation. Community string is the same as in CUCM (eg. RemotePhoneControl)
Make sure that Application user (RemotePhoneControl) on CUCM has control over desired phones (Step 5).

I just needed to restart “Cisco CallManager SNMP”, “Cisco AXL Web Service” and after that I was able to access my 7965 phone with an ip address 142.102.64.49.

Verification

Everything should be ready at this point, so lets test. If it doesn’t work and troubleshooting section of official guide mentioned above did not help, please, ask a question in a comments section.

Open your RPC tool and type phone IP address (or you can search for phones with “Search” menu).

cucm_singlewire_snmp_03

Output for search menu. Found two phones.

cucm_singlewire_snmp_04

And after clicking “Open” button we are able to control the phone.

It not really comfortable to work like that for a preparation to some labs, but it’s a nice option if you need to verify something quickly, but you don’t have physical access to the phones.

Thank you but i got error Unable to get call manager cluster table information form snmp in cluster .make sure the nump service is started on all servers in the cluster ” ..please can you help me 😦

    • Rose,

Make sure that you’ve tried things below
      1) verify that SNMP service is activated and running
      2) restart the UCM nodes
      3) RemotePhoneControl application is associated with the controlled phone

If this will not help you can collect traces.
Please, double check the steps required to do in the config guide.

      Thanks,
      Alexander

    I’ve been getting the error:

“RemotePhoneControl is having difficulty communicating with the phone. You may need to check the settings. Unable to read phone screen image, image in a unregistered format.”

No matter what I try. Do you know of the usual cause of this?

  4. Anastasiia says:

    Саша, привет!
У меня ошибка как в предыдущем комментарии:
“RemotePhoneControl is having difficulty communicating with the phone. You may need to check the settings. Unable to read phone screen image, image in a unregistered format.”
    Проверяла на всех доступных моделях телефонов 7965, 7975, 7911, 6941, 6921.
CUCM 9.1.2. Поддержка CTI на телефонах включена, AXL сервис рестартовала.

  5. Nastia,

Try to reboot the whole node (if not, restart SNMP as well).
Collect pcap from the PC with RPC to isolate component, eg. SNMP. Then start collecting SNMP traces.

Let me know and I’ll try to think of smth.

    Alexander
